Ismay wants a relaxing summer by the beach with her fiancé Remy at his family's lavish beachfront cottage. She arrives early, and while she waits a few weeks for Remy to arrive, a hurricane hits the area. As she looks for candles, Ismay discovers some disturbing items in Remy's old room. Soon after her discovery, the cottage caretaker Bo comes to check on the house. Ismay finds that Bo's home was damaged in the storm so she invites him to stay. Bo and Ismay have a connection and he goes out of his way to look out for her, especially when Remy's erratic brother shows up. Ismay finds out another secret about Remy—between that and the disturbing items she found in his closet, she starts to wonder if she knows her fiancé at all. While this novel is full of romance, Novak (The Seaside Library, 2023) elevates mystery elements that will appeal to readers of Colleen Hoover. Copyright 2024 Booklist Reviews.
